Is the test really free?

Yes. The 16-question short test, your score range and your percentile are free, with no card and no email required to see the result. The 48-question adaptive assessment is a one-time upgrade.

Do I need an email address to get my score?

No. You can take the short test anonymously and see your result straight away. An account only matters if you want to save attempts, compare over time, or keep access to a full assessment you have paid for.

Why do you show a range instead of a single number?

Every cognitive test has measurement error, including supervised clinical tests. A range like 108–122 states honestly where your score most likely sits. A single number would imply precision no unsupervised test can deliver.

Is this a real IQ test?

It uses research-based item types and reports on the deviation IQ scale, so the result is meaningful. It is not a supervised clinical assessment and cannot replace one.

What is the difference between the free test and the full assessment?

The free test uses 16 fixed questions and gives a wider score range with a quick strengths overview. The full assessment uses 48 questions that adapt to your level, which produces a tighter range, a complete profile across six kinds of thinking, a question-by-question explanation, saved attempts and a shareable certificate.

Is this a clinical assessment?

No. Brain Rate is not administered or supervised by a licensed psychologist and it is not a substitute for the WAIS-IV, WISC-V, Stanford-Binet or any supervised intelligence assessment. It must not be used for employment, educational placement, immigration, legal or medical decisions.

How accurate is it?

Accuracy is reported directly in your result as a confidence interval. The short form carries more measurement error than the full adaptive form, which is why its range is wider. Unsupervised online testing also adds error from distraction, fatigue and environment. Our accuracy page explains this in detail.

What kinds of thinking does it measure?

Pattern recognition, verbal reasoning, number logic, spatial thinking, working memory and processing speed.

Can I retake the test?

Yes, as often as you like. Repeated attempts on similar item types tend to drift upward through familiarity rather than genuine change, so treat your first attempt as the cleanest estimate.

Brain Rate is for ages 13 and over. It is not a child assessment and should never be used to make decisions about a child's schooling or support.

You can take the short test without giving us any personal details. If you create an account we store your email and your scored attempts so you can return to them. We do not sell personal data. Payments are processed by Stripe and card details never reach our servers.
